As 2020 begins, the opening day of the ‘Light + Building 2020 (2020 Frankfurt International Lighting Fair)’ is approaching two months ahead. The Messe Frankfurt, which is hosting the exhibition ahead of hosting the world's largest and best international lighting exhibition, has informed the following about the theme of this year's exhibition. <Editor's Notes>

More and more people are moving to cities. The increasing lack of space and resources is a big challenge for local governments. In this situation, smart cities based on interconnected and intelligent communication are a good solution to the problem. Using digital technology makes cities safer, more efficient and more sustainable.

In this regard, ‘Light + Building 2020’, the world's leading trade show in Frankfurt this year, will present products for smart cities and provide a platform for smart building automation, intelligent energy management and connected safety and security.

Technology development and innovation play a key role in the concept of the "future city." A key prerequisite for the smart city of the future is the secure and efficient connection of people, places and infrastructure. Intensive connection and collection of data from building equipment is a reality today.

Smart Building : The core of 'Smart City'

The urbanization process means less land is available, and buildings are getting bigger and more complex.

In these situations, collecting and evaluating large amounts of data can help improve the safety, security, energy efficiency, and environmental friendliness of buildings and cities. By seamlessly networking numerous sensors, the accumulated data can be used in all services, especially reducing energy consumption.

According to the German Electrical Industry Association (ZVEI), intelligent building automation reduces energy demand and CO2 emissions by 20-30%. In this regard, self-learning systems can facilitate intensive user engagement through needs-based lighting control, cooling and heating, or through the display of individual escape routes on mobile devices.

Smart lighting : Greatly contributing to Energy Saving

According to the Working Group on Energy Balance, about 13% of Germany's electricity consumption is used for lighting. Given this, LED luminaires offer great potential over conventional lighting systems with energy savings of up to 80%. You can also adjust the lighting temperature (color temperature) and color to suit your individual requirements.

In this way, smart LED luminaires can be used to improve well-being and productivity (human-centered lighting). Especially in intelligent cities, LED streetlights with WLAN, EV charging facilities, emergency call buttons and other sensors are an important part of the Internet of Things (IoT).

Charging Infrastructure : Key Elements of 'Smart Mobility'

Smarter cities are only possible with the new mobility concept, and the intensive expansion of electric mobility is one of the core of the mobility concept.

As a result, it will be necessary to provide charging points for electric vehicles and intelligent charge management systems in intelligent electric networks (smart grids). In this regard, particular attention must be paid to the integration of charging points into the building's electrical infrastructure and adjusted accordingly.

Light + Building : Market Overview and Discussion Platform

Tomorrow's challenges, such as urbanization and climate change, can only be met with innovative ideas and approaches. To go beyond individual measurement and pilot projects, an intensive exchange of information between all involved is essential.

The world's leading trade fair, Light + Building 2020, will be held in Frankfurt am Main from March 8-13, 2020, for building automation, smart cities, intelligent neighborhoods and energy management, advanced electronic charging infrastructure and It is an ideal platform for discussing related concepts.

5th Intersec Forum

The process of linking various building services with modern safety and security technologies is taking the next step. Early research projects and application platforms allow forward-looking predictions of the benefits provided by smart building and smart city applications.

In this regard, the 5th Connected Security Technology Conference, held for all professionals in technical building planning and construction, will mark the future of building safety and security technology.

Connected safety and security technologies, a major concern for manufacturers and users, will be the main content of Light + Building 2020, the world's leading trade fair for lighting and building services in March 2020.

Leading companies covering the entire 'Light + Building 2020', such as emergency lighting in Hall 8 and building automation in Halls 9 and 11, have been developed in Hall 9.1's 'International Platform for Connected Safety and Security Technologies'. Will contribute to the Intersec Building.

Intersec Building integrates products from international market leaders in safety and security technologies such as Siemens, DOM Sicherheitstechnik, Grothe, WANZL, PCS Systemtechnik and Schneider Intercom.

Within this framework, the Intersec Forum meeting will serve as an information interface for about 80 experts to discuss “face-to-face experiences and issues” during the six days of the “Light + Building 2020”.

The Intersec Forum, for example, covers a wide range from the technical vision of connected systems to practical experience in the planning, construction, operation and maintenance of integrated safety and security equipment in buildings, as seen in the 'predictive' research platform. .

The 'Intersec Forum' features topics on semantic interoperability, building artificial intelligence (AI), cyber security, building information modeling (BIM), fire prevention, emergency and safety lighting, video technology, smart access management, theft and alarms.

The system, technology, services and legal framework meetings begin with lectures and discussions on building artificial intelligence on the first afternoon of the opening day of the March 8 Light + Building 2020. During the next five days, lectures will be held between 10 am and 4 pm, followed by an evening event for networking and talk shops at the hall in Hall 9.1. The cost of attending the conference is included in the ticket price of Light + Building 2020. More information is available at www.messefrankfurt.com.

Messe Frankfurt : Revenue of 730 million Euros

Messe Frankfurt, meanwhile, kept its key performance indicators at a consistently high level and continued operating profit growth in fiscal year 2019. Messe Frankfurt expects sales of € 733 million in fiscal year 2019.

During the year 2019, more than 400,000 exhibitors and 5 million visitors took part in more than 400 events held under the name of Messe Frankfurt. The renovation of the five-hole hall, the development of hotels and high-rise office buildings, and the new south entrance, solidified Frankfurt's status as one of the world's newest exhibition centers.
Messe Frankfurt Audit Chair and Frankfurt Mayor Peter Feldmann commented on these findings:

“Messe Frankfurt is the world's largest exhibition organizer with its own fair ground and the only publicly traded German exhibition company that has long run. Messe Frankfurt's excellent strategic orientation and sustainable development are powerful drivers of synergy for both the economy and society.

Messe Frankfurt set a new record for sales in Frankfurt in 2019, once again bringing indirect revenue to cities, regions and countries. Each year, Messe Frankfurt's event generates € 360 million in purchasing power in Germany and has helped secure about 18,500 jobs in the city of Frankfurt alone. ”

Thanks to the stable growth of Messe Frankfurt, Messe Frankfurt continues to expand its international market share.

Messe Frankfurt Chairman and CEO Wolfgang Machin explained in a preliminary announcement in 2019 : “We grew in our industry sectors and sectors, and we grew both organizationally and through acquisitions. Messe Frankfurt has acquired 46 events since 2010, consolidated its portfolio and developed very successfully. ”
