The outer wall of the Donuimun Museum Village, which was reborn as a storage of

memory for 100 years of modern times through the city regeneration project in Seoul,

transformed into the first ‘Seoul-type Vertical Garden’ with a total of 1000㎡.

 The Seoul City announced that it would open up to the public on July 10 by creating a

large outdoor vertical garden that can increase the amount of green space in the city

center without land, as a new way of urban greening. Construction started in November

last year and completed in June 2020.

To cope with climate change such as mitigating heat island phenomenon in the city center and reducing fine dust, and improving urban environmental problems, 5 adjacent

buildings, such as the Seoul Urban Construction Center in the Donuimun Museum Village, have ▲wall surface recording 552㎡ ▲Roofing recording 300㎡ ▲Greenhouse 1 (77.35 ㎡) Night landscape lighting was created.

 'Seoul-type vertical garden' is filled with flowers and trees that can feel the four seasons

in various ways, such as woody plants such as a little snowy scent that grows green even

in winter, western white pear, and emerald green, as well as ground cover and flowers

such as evergreen giraffe and silver sage.

The plant species are 3,732 shares of 13 kinds of woody species, such as Jomnohyang, Western white, and emerald green, and 10,973 species of 30 species of ground cover and

flowers, such as Evergreen Giraffe, Eunsacho, Buddhason, and Jeolsacheol.

An automatic irrigation system (drop irrigation, mist irrigation) was established to keep the vertical garden continuously and efficiently. In order to help citizens experience the vertical garden up close, a greenhouse garden and a roof garden in the Donuimun Museum

Village have been prepared, and it will be used as a space for learning and relaxation.

In addition to the learning and exhibition functions, the greenhouse garden is used as a

nursery space for plant replacement and treatment. The rooftop garden (Grass One) was

created on the second floor of the Seoul Urban Construction Center, providing a space for communication and relaxation for visitors to the town.

In the case of wall recording, citizens who visit Donuimun Museum Village can touch and

feel the vertical garden up close by installing a frame that can be put on the outside wall of the building and inserting a pot.

In addition, through this year's vertical garden demonstration project, the city plans to

create vertical gardens in two locations, such as the Sinsu-dong Community Center in

Mapo-gu, and continuously expand the vertical gardens of public buildings in Seoul by

continuously supplementing and monitoring technology.

Sang-Don  Park, head of the Seoul City Infrastructure Headquarters, said, “We look

forward to the vertical garden of the Donuimun Museum Village expanding Seoul's

insufficient green space and establishing itself as a new model for urban greening that

responds to climate change in an eco-friendly way.”

◆ 'Seoul-type Vertical Garden' and Lighting

One of the new trends that appeared in the '2019 Milan International Furniture Fair' held

in Milan, Italy in April last year was'Indoor garden' and'Outdoor garden furniture'.

From this point on, it was the ‘garden making boom’ that started to blow hot all over the world. Among them, the most intense blowing is the 'indoor garden' and the 'garden wall' or 'vertical garden'.

Indoor gardens are currently spreading to houses, offices, shops, hotels, movie theaters,

and department stores. In particular, after the occurrence of 'Corona 19', this trend has

become stronger.

 

Among indoor gardens created in department stores, hotels, and movie theaters, there is an example of the form of 'vertical garden lighting'. For example, there is a large vertical

garden at the entrance of a movie theater in Aeon Okinawa, a large shopping mall in

Okinawa, Japan.

There are not many examples of vertical gardens installed outdoors. However, it is

expected that the number of cases in which some or all of the outer walls of the building will be made into vertical gardens will increase. In particular, there is a high possibility that facade lighting or landscape lighting will be installed in vertical gardens created in tourist

facilities.
